モンブラン Montblancの歴史について

モンブラン (Montblanc) はスイスの装飾品コングロマリットリシュモングループが所有する筆記具ブランドである。

ドイツを起源とした筆記具メーカーとしてのモンブランはもはや存在しておらず、リシュモングループが所有するブランドのひとつとなっている。 買収される前のモンブランは長年、高品質な筆記具をつくり続けてきたが、リシュモングループに買収されて以来腕時計フレグランス、革製品など多角化にのり出した結果、2013年度の売上高の6割弱は腕時計、フレグランス、革製品などが占めており、筆記具は非中核ビジネスという位置づけとなっている

製品には、アルプス最高峰モンブランの頂きを覆う雪をイメージした、白い星型のマーク(「ホワイトスター」)が付くことで有名。代表的製品であるマイスターシュテュックのペン先にはモンブラン山の標高である「4810」が刻まれている。

歴史

ドイツ・ハンブルクの文具商と銀行家、ベルリンのエンジニアらが万年筆を製作した1906年を創業年とし、シンプロ・フィラー・ペン社を設立。1910年にモンブランの商品名が誕生し、社名に冠されたのは1934年のこととなる。1924年には「マイスターシュテュック」が製造され大ヒット。第二次世界大戦後の復興も迅速に行われ、1950年代には逸品の数々を産出。万年筆といえばモンブラン、と誰もが思い浮かべ手にすることを望む不動のブランドネームを確立した。

一世を風靡した名品の数々

モンブランの歴史は筆記具の盛衰を反映している。マイスターシュテュック149が大ヒットした1950年代には黄金期を迎える。ボールペンが台頭する70~80年代には低迷するが、90年代には高級筆記具ブランドとして再生した。

  • 1906年 – ハンブルク文房具店の主人と銀行家アルフレッド・ネヘミアス、ベルリンドイツ人エンジニアの3人によって万年筆の製造が開始されたことから始まる。創業当初の社名は「シンプロ・フィラーペン・カンパニー」。
  • 1908年 SIMPLO FILLER PEN Co.(シンプロ フィラーペン カンパニー)として法人化。ハンブルクに本社を置く。
    1909年安全性を高めた万年筆、ルージュ・エ・ノワール発売。「モンブラン」の名が確立する。
    1910年 「モンブラン」を商標登録。以後全ての筆記具に用いる。改良版万年筆「モンブラン」の白いキャップトップがホワイトスターの前身となる。
    1913年 ホワイトスターとブランドロゴを商標登録。以後全ての筆記具に用いるようになる。
  • 1924年 – モンブランの代表傑作ともいえるマイスターシュテュックが発表される。
  • 1934年 – ブランドイメージとしてロゴにも使用していたアルプス最高峰、モンブランの名前を取り入れる形で社名を変更。「モンブラン・シンプロ・GMBH」となる。
  • 1980年代 – ダンヒルに買収される。
  • 1992年 – モンブラン文化財団を設立し、モンブラン国際文化賞の授与を開始。
  • 1993年 – ダンヒルがリシュモングループに買収され、リシュモンの傘下となる。
  • 2006年 – 創業100周年を記念して、ダイヤモンドのホワイトスターをあしらい、モンブラン産花崗岩をキャップに使用したアニヴァーサリーエディションのマイスターシュテュックなどを発表した。
  • 2014年 マイスターシュテュック90周年。90周年のデザインを施した特別モデルを多数発売する。

In the footsteps of Honoré de Balzac

With the new Writers Edition 2013, Montblanc pays tribute to Honoré de Balzac (1799 – 1850), the novelist and playwright who delivered an opus of nearly 100 novels and plays collectively known as “La Comédie Humaine”. Regarded as the father of realism, Balzac is admired for his vivid portrayal of 19th century society with all the complex human characters, objects and environments that made up this rapidly changing world.

Inspired by the Dandyism of the 19th century

The Limited Edition reflects not only significant stages of Balzac’s life, the main inspiration for the design of this writing masterpiece comes from the Dandyism of 19th century European society, epitomized by the aesthetic decadence and individual elegance of Balzac for whom style was an existential imperative.

The barrel of writing instrument features a precious black resin and grey lacquer with a guilloche refinement, which references the typical cutaway of the trousers favoured by refined Parisian gentlemen.

While walking through the city of Paris, Balzac always carried a walking stick with him. Through this accessory he spread the strange myth that the handle of the stick held the nude painting of a mysterious aristocratic paramour. The clip of the Writers Edition embellished with turquoise lacquering on its top symbolizes the authors richly decorated walking cane.

The platinum and gold-plated rings encircling the instrument refer to the different classes that emerged in French society in the early 19th century, often a central theme in the works of Balzac. The opulent, gold-coated cap head ring represents the nobility, the platinum-plated discreetly decorated cap ring, the bourgeoisie and the simply worked cone ring, the lower social strata.

Furthermore, Balzac initials, which are engraved in typical lead typesetting letters on the partly rhodium-plated 18K solid gold nib, are a reminder of his time as a writer, printer and publisher.

Montblanc supports the launch of the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus in Europe

The John Lennon Educational Tour comes to Europe and Yoko Ono Lennon celebrates the launch of the non-profit mobile studio in John Lennon’s hometown, Liverpool.


The John Lennon Tour Bus hits the European roads. Over the last 16 years, the non-profit state-of-the-art mobile audio and video recording and production studio was present at American schools and festivals. While traveling from coast to coast, the bus stops at schools, universities, concerts and music festivals in order to provide young people with further music education.

In 2013 the popular Tour Bus gets a European counterpart, which drives through Europe. On 8th of May, Yoko Ono Lennon unveiled the brand new Education Tour Bus for Europe during a launch event in John Lennon’s hometown Liverpool, UK.

Attendees were able to preview this extraordinary vehicle before it sets off on an exciting tour of the UK and Europe. In mid-June, the new bus will make its way to London to attend the Yoko Ono curated Meltdown Festival on the South Bank, amongst other soon to be announced dates.

In 2010, Montblanc supported this great project for the first time and accompanied the bus during its tour through the USA. This year, Montblanc once again supports the John Lennon Tour Bus and its effort to give students of all ages the possibility to learn more about music and its production as part of their education. Stopping at local schools, colleges and festivals, the  bus and its staff strive to reach as many people as possible in order to inspire students to create art, music and film.

A state-of-the-art mobile recording studio

During its 16 years on the road, the US Lennon Bus has teamed up with renowned artists such as will.i.am, Natascha Bedingfield and the Black Eyed Peas.  Continuing this tradition, the European edition will invite name recording artists to participate, mentor students, and utilise the facilities throughout its journey.

 

 

With its two digital recording studios, acoustic isolation room and newest technology the students get the chance to learn how to compose, play, perform, record and produce songs and music videos – in just one day!  Like its original sister bus in the US, Lennon Bus Europe is staffed by a crew of three producers. The interior is divided into three separate studio environments that can be opened to create one large studio. The front studio is a cutting-edge audio and video production room. The rear studio offers pro-level recording and mixing at the highest possible resolution, as well as an iso booth for acoustic recordings, and a Chromatte booth.

Montblanc shares many of John Lennon’s convictions about the responsibility of art and culture to society. Besides continuing the support for the John Lennon Tour Bus, Montblanc launches a ballpoint pen that completes the John Lennon Commemoration Edition 1940. With this Edition Montblanc is ensuring that Lennon’s legend not only lives on in his verse, his music, and his artistic legacy, but in the beauty of a timeless writing instrument. In this masterpiece, Montblanc has captured Lennon’s incredible soul and philosophy.
